Instagram Is Making Strides In Body Positivity

So 2016 has been the year of loving yourself. It's been the time to prove to people that you can do whatever you want. You can wear what you want and be proud in doing so. WGSN, has recently posted an Article highlighting 8 of the most influential plus size bloggers in the internet and and social media right now.

With more and more brands recognising that there is more to the 'normal' person then just being sized 0-6 Instagram and social media has become the new platform for people to express themselves in as many ways as possible; it could be through there art, fashion or words, these platforms are now so influential people are making careers out of them.

WGSN makes it clear that they support this sudden and wonderful increase in body confidence. And if you ask me it's all about bloody time that people of all shapes and sizes are made to feel comfortable within the fashion world and media in general.

  • Body positive philosophy: with the empowering belief that "women of all sizes should be able to enjoy fashion and shouldn't have to wait to be a certain size to wear fashionable clothes", Callie Thorpe voices the Body Positive message that reaffirms beauty for all body shapes, with a focus on exercise for health rather than weight loss
  • Digital influencers: social media is playing an increasingly important role in shaping and giving a voice to the plus-size market. Alongside a new crop of models and celebrities, these digital influencers are expressing their individuality, unique sense of style and acceptance of difference
  • Trend-led fashion: as highlighted in Brands to Watch – Plus Size 2016, plus-size consumers are discerning and fashion conscious, with more choice than ever before. Brands such as Universal Standard and Eloquii are shaking up the industry. As outlined in Body Positive: New Plus Size Retail Strategies brands are "having to shake off their dowdy reputations and rebrand for a modern consumer"

With this new wave of self love, which I can't help but jump on the band wagon with comes many people just like 'Thinking Outside The Box' who are able to make people feel comfortable in anything that they choose to wear!
Now more then ever they are breaking down barriers that people have recently thought could not be moved! There is no such thing 'plus size' clothing and 'skinny' clothing, the margins behind them are soon not becoming there at all. For a website such as WGSN to recognise 'plus size' bloggers and making the ways through social media they must be doing something right!
