I Take The Photos I'm Not In Them

I got a camera, I rented some questionably good soft box lighting and a group of girls from my course, say an editorial, came up with an idea, got a model, changed the idea did a photoshoot, added some flowers and photoshop skills and completed my first officially University photoshoot. Did I enjoy it? Yes
Did I like the end result? Yes
Would I like to do a project like this again? Yes

If you can be bothered and have kept up with this blog, FYI thanks if you have, then think back to the post the other week about the Craig Mcdean editorial called 'Game, Set, Match'. Of course you wouldn't needed that nudge though as these images clearly link back to that shoot anyway.

But just incase you didn't quite see that in these images then I'll just explain a little about them. We decided to have 5 words that really set the base line for this photo shoot.

- URBAN
- CHAMELION
- BOLD
- ANDROGYNOUS
- GEOMETRIC

These were not the fist words that came to mind, to be honest our first set of words were pretty basic and would have made our tutors roll their eyes at how quickly in 2 minuets we could generate the most obvious 'edgy'  words to try and make our shoot sound cool. So we spent a little longer to come up with something a little different.

We knew that we needed to really find the concept of the original shoot while also being able to present our own ideas and also keep in mind this was a shoot about and idea and an object and not a chance to showcase our styling, hair or make up skills.

Something which we decided very early on was to create a collage, 'stick on' effect with the images, something which in the end we decided to do on photoshop, but given the time would have like to do in real life on a scanner system given the chance again. This was a key factor in bringing to live the same bold shapes and geometric print that was carried out throughout McDean's shoot. Further to why we added in the large flowers and bight cut outs behind the image.

Something which we found within the feedback of our shoot was that there wan't a running pattern throughout any of our images, such as theme, colour or model, even though this may seem like a negative in many photoshoot ideas, this was yet another factor that we pointed out within Mcdeans's work. Game set and match was very different to his normal work that he had normally done and we therefore saw it as an experiment, something we took into our our ideas. We experimented with what we could do with the resources that we had to offer. We played around with ideas and what would look best in what way creating no real connection around the images. However once the concept and ideas were explained and understood it was in fact clear there was a connection after all. Something which we found in the feedback from out lecturers.
